Leo read it three times, memorizing every word. His parents were behind barbed wire in America while he bled for America. But they were alive. That was enough.

He tucked the letter over his heart and picked up his rifle.

His friend Mike appeared. "Good news?"

Leo nodded. "They're alive."

Mike put a hand on his shoulder. "Then we get you home to them."

They marched out together, two soldiers carrying hope in their pockets, fighting for a country that sometimes forgot they belonged. But they fought anyway. Because home was waiting. Home was always waiting.
